Growth in manufacturing

Norwegian manufacturing experienced an increase of 2.3 per cent from September to November 2006 when compared with the previous three-month period, according to seasonally adjusted figures. All main groupings, except energy goods, contribute to the rise.

Manufacturing of capital goods in the very same period had an increase of 2.8 per cent. This is partly due to the high level of activity within transport equipment as well as machinery and equipment n.e.c. Statistics on new orders show that stocks are especially high for building and fitting of supply boats for the Norwegian oil sector. At the same time there has been an increase in demand from abroad for Norwegian engineering products. Oil platforms and fabricated metal products continue to increase in the period from September to November 2006, 2.9 and 3.4 per cent respectively, compared to the previous period. Only electrical and optical equipment experienced a decrease in the last three-month period.
